Is Kindle iphone app going to work?

Posted at 6:35 am

So amazon have spread their wings even further with the Kindle by creating an app for the iphone (and ipod Touch) which gives consumers access to 240,000-plus books, including 104 of 112 New York Times Bestsellers.

As I have written before, I love the phone and what it has done for delivering better content and user experience to a mobile device…but I am not convinced this will be a winner…at least need to read a whole book…the audio/video books could be a different story…literally!

I thought one of the biggest selling points of the Kindle was its ability to replicate the size and readability of a normal book…which was always difficult on lap top due to its size and a glaring screen. Whilst the iphone display is a massive improvement on previous phones, I am not sure users will want to spend much more than 10 mins reading their favorite novel and lets face it the Kindle was created a portable device so most users will probably have both devices close to them at the same time.

In the defense of the article linked below, the iphone app was created to broaden the appeal of the Kindle as a wireless book store which has been a great success for both Amazon and publishers. It will be interesting to see what happens to blogs as a number of companies already publish blogs to mobile phones and typically ad support where as I believe the Kindle model requires a payment.

…and lets face it…any content driven company with digitally stored content who doesn’t do something on the iphone is missing out on a BIG PR and marketing opportunity let alone the ability to sell the content… I will be trying it for sure! 🙂
